Study & Action for Palestine – LearnJam community support

Are you committed to a Free Palestine and the well-being of all people, everywhere?

More information

White Awake is a US-based organisation that tackles white supremacy through educational resources and spiritual practices that engage people who’ve been socially categorised as “white” in the creation of a just and sustainable society.

They are currently offering Study & Action for Palestine, an online course and learning community for anyone who is committed to a Free Palestine and the well-being of all people, everywhere.

The programme is made up of 6 fortnightly live sessions of 90 minutes (with recordings available to participants 2-3 days after the live session), plus additional tasks and activities. The programme will run March to May.

The live sessions are at a time that probably doesn’t work well for most people in the UK, but recordings are made available to participants.

LearnJam are hosting community watching and discussion groups for people in the UK (or similar timezones), providing community support and local contextualisation for this important programme.

The White Awake programme covers the following themes:

  • Historic and international context for the current wave of genocidal violence against Palestinians under Israeli occupation
  • Historic Palestine, Palestinian struggles for self-determination, and Palestinian leadership in liberatory movements
  • Antisemitism, the weaponization of Jewish trauma, and Jewish leadership in liberatory movements
  • Settler colonialism, Zionism, capitalism, imperialism, and the strong ties between the United States & Israel
  • Avenues for engagement, including Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions, Palestinian & Jewish led organizing, and international solidarity

The LearnJam community is:

  • For people who have registered for White Awake’s Study & Action for Palestine – you can register at this link
  • Free to join (no additional charge to the programme itself)
  • An online space for reflection and conversation relating to the recordings, the homework tasks and the themes. These sessions may also involve applying or translating the US-centric course focus to our own context.
  • Currently suggesting to meet on the Monday following the live session for one hour at lunchtime, online via Google Meet. With the expectation that everyone attending will have watched the recording separately in their own time.
  • Possibly able to offer additional support such as specific times to watch the recording in community, which can be arranged separately
  • A WhatsApp group (or similar) to facilitate community discussion and arranging
