In this last instalment of our 3-part video series taken from the ELTjam Session held during the 2014 IATEFL conference in Harrogate, ELT author Antonia Clare and Director of Education at Net Languages Fiona Thomas each spend five minutes sharing their ideas on the topic ‘The Future of ELT’.
Antonia discusses the importance of creating valuable and inspirational content to create language learning systems that have never been used before. She talks about the overwhelming ‘rush to digital’, where too much focus is being placed on flashing buttons and data analytics. Instead, she proposes publishers take the time to talk to authors about what the next generation of digital products should look like.
Fiona focuses on the role of the manager in teaching organisations. As learning and teaching starts to become more and more online, the role of the manager will start to shift. DoS’s will need to learn how to deal with new tools so that they are able to work effectively in an online context. This could mean anything from teacher training and inductions to rethinking how teachers get paid.
